Good news for Filipino laborers as the country is planning to give its employees an early Christmas gift. According to Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, it will be a 1 time bonus for this year to recompense and inspire workers to be more prolific.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said that each government personnel will receive an amount of Php 5000 for 2017. This will be given before December 15, 2017 and must be at least 4 months in the service. It will cover regular, contractual, part time or full time laborers, employees and officials of Local Government Units (LGU), military personnel of the Department of National Defense (DND), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other workers of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Meanwhile, those who worked less than 4 months in a government agency will be qualified to pro-rated Productivity Employment Incentive (PEI). As of October 31, a total of 1.4 million national government workers will be given the PEI with a total of Php 7 billion. The said amount will be obtained from Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund (MPBF) covered by the Budget Circular 2014-3. On the other hand, Government Financial Institutions (GFI) and Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCC) are going to use their own corporate operating budgets.

Netizens Various Reaction on Php 5000 Incentive

When it was revealed that the Duterte administration are planning to give a Php 5000 bonus for government employees, some Filipino netizens expressed their reactions on various social media platforms. Two of them are @sensidocommon who tweeted a quotation that “if you give many will complain, if you will not give, all of them will complain and @LionClubofCintra said that they should’ve just given the bonuses to the millions who are hungry during Christmas. There were also some who mocked the authorities by saying that you cannot trust most government officials and they don’t deserve a bonus.
