After many years, comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas has disclosed her battle against a skin disorder known as psoriasis. According to her, she has kept it a secret for such a long time.
Being observably thinner and healthier now, Ai-ai has chosen to share her long kept secret in order to inspire those who are also suffering with the same condition. Her psoriasis has become more manageable than before due to some changes in her lifestyle.

“If work required me to expose my skin, I had to cover everything with makeup,” she shared during her interview with the Inquirer.
In the middle of 2016, Ai-ai went to her doctor to get her usual shots because of a major skin flare-up. However, she found that the medicine she was given was no longer effective for her. It triggered her to do some research about her illness on the internet. She later found a cookbook designed especially for psoriasis sufferers.
She discovered that she had been eating a lot of food psoriasis patients should not have. It led her to maintain a diet consists of “less salt and sugar, no meat, no dairy products and all organic vegetables.” She seldom eats eggs and chicken breast meat. She completely foregoes drinking soft drinks and any food with preservatives.
She also finds time to hit the gym and do circuit training for an hour and a half when not busy with her showbiz commitments.
“I run for 30 minutes on the treadmill, too, and do toning exercises with dumbbells weighing 10 pounds,” she said.
She added that it is important to learn as much as you can about the illness you’re afflicted with. She now has psoriasis awareness as her advocacy. She realized that sharing her experiences could also help other suffering the same skin condition as her.
Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes red, flaky, crusty patches of skin covered with silvery scales. The exact cause of it is still unknown, but studies suggest that a weakened immune system may also be a triggering factor.
