After President Benigno Aquino III claimed that he had been fooled and fed with wrong information by Police Director Getulio Napeñas Jr. regarding the Mamasapano incident where 67 people died including the 44 fallen Special Action Force (SAF) police unit, Napeñas had been reportedly depressed and emotional.

It was on Monday, March 9, 2015 that PNoy had claimed that Napeñas had done number of errors that had caused lives of his men. The president refused to take responsibility of the mission that ended up in bloodbath.

Napeñas Emotionally Depressed after President Benigno Aquino III Accused him of giving Wrong Information
Atty. Vitaliano Aguirre, lawyer of Napeñas, told that his client had been emotional. He had thought that all was fine until the president’s speech against him on Monday. His relatives had started calling Napeñas but they had been rejected. Napeñas simply told them not to call as his depression only worsens. The lawyer then added that Napeñas is still happy that the public is still supporting him.

On the other hand, the public calls for Napeñas to come out with the truth behind the rumored coverup of the Mamasapano incident that had also caused the peace process with MILF. Napeñas had even voiced out that he is accepting the responsibility for the mission that had unfortunately ended in unexpected number of deaths. As the commander, he accepts that he take up the responsibility but on the other hand, he had also expected the president and former Director General Alan Purisima to take up theirs too. As it turned out, his expectations were not met.

Aguirre shared that there is a question on who was really at fault. Aquino had allegedly given power of command to Purisima though he had been already suspended. Purisima even confirmed Napeñas’ claim that he had a hand in the mission but he stressed that he had given only an advice and not a real order. The said ‘order’ was given during a close door meeting with the president, making him assume that it was an order to only tell Roxas and Espina about the mission once the troop is already in the mission area.
