The Ayala Group which owns Globe telecom and Ant Financial Services Group owned by Chinese billionaire and Alibaba founder Jack Ma made a partnership to allow its subscribers pay through their mobile phones in several establishments.The business magnate visited the country to commence Globe’s newest way of payment by using mobile wallet application, GCash that will be similar to China’s digital payment service, Alipay.

According to the telecommunication company, the scan to pay feature that need merchants will examine a QR code of phones and it will be rolled out at Ayala malls such as Market Market, Bonifacio High Street, Alabang Town Center, Trinoma, Greenbelt, and Ayala Center Cebu. Even though QR technology is used in various applications, it is hindered by slow internet access and low smart phone usage.

Globe to Launch Cashless Payments
Ernest Cu who is the CEO of Globe even revealed that GCash is used by their consumers for almost a decade and it is the right time to launch it again.  He also added that the country now reached 70% who are smart phone users and the Filipinos are ready to use cashless payment. Their main challenge will be on how they will make their customers prefer digital payment instead of cash or credit cards.


PLDT also Launch Scan to Pay Technology


On the same day Globe relaunch GCash, PLDT also presented their scan to pay technology that will be available across the country wherein selected retailers at key cities will allow purchasers to pay through PayMaya application.

According to Orlando Vea, who is the President and CEO of PayMaya Phils. And Voyager Innovations, it is a huge step for their subscribers to use this kind of payment. PayMaya which is the leading digital payment wallet will strengthen their position as the top mobile payment acquirer in the Philippines.

Meanwhile GCash president Albert Tinio told the media that they welcome the competition as it will help Filipinos to adapt in the technology.
