Far from his usual tough guy image, a President Rodrigo Duterte latest picture with his youngest grandson shows no more than an affectionate grandfather.
The president visited his newly-born grandchild late Thursday evening at the Davao Doctors Hospital and their photos were uploaded on Facebook by Presidential Assistant Bong Go. President Duterte flew straight to Davao after attending a groundbreaking ceremony in Cebu after learning that his daughter Sara already gave birth.
Stonefish will join his equally oceanic-named older siblings Mikhaila Maria and Matteo Lucas, nicknamed Sharky and Stingray respectively.
During President Duterte’s speech at an event by the Cebu of Commerce and Industry Inc. (CCCI) in Lapu-Lapu City, he jokingly pitied his grandson for his parents’ choice of nickname.
"Ang pangalan daw Marco Digong. Ganoon talaga iyan si Inday... Ito ang palayaw daw Stonefish. Kaawa naman ang bata," Duterte said. (They said the name is Marco Digong. Inday is really like that. This one’s nicknamed Stonefish. Poor kid!)
Stonefish is Duterte’s eight grandson, and the President said he was ‘exceedingly excited’ to meet him before his visit late Thursday night.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, the arrival of the President’s newest grandchild fortifies his resolve "to leave a legacy of a Philippines safe and secure from drugs and heinous crimes to future generation of Filipinos.”
