Political analysts and critics have observed many similarities between the newly elected US President Donald Trump and our country’s very own Rodrigo Duterte. Even before the celebrity businessman won the election, he became controversial because of his unnecessary statements during the political campaign. Many called Trump “American Duterte“and Duterte “Filipino Trump” because of their affinity however, it will be tested because of our President’s unfriendly policy towards the United States.
The following are the some of the resemblance between the 2 leaders:
Analysts associated the victories of Trump and Duterte through their promises and statements that attracted most of the voters. Duterte focused to destroy the criminality and illegal drugs while Trump appealed through his perfectionist policies and tough immigration.
Before Duterte, no other politician in the history of Philippine Politics had utilized it during the election period. He got a lot of support from his legions of supporters who are deprecatory called “Dutertards” and are still active to defend the President from bashers. It was also the same for Trump when he was leading the polls. Unlike Duterte, Trump is known to be active in social media to interact with his supporters. It was also reported that he saved $3.4 billion from media coverage.
TREATMENT ON WOMEN
Trump and Duterte had a fair share of controversy regarding their remarks on women. During Duterte’s campaign, he was criticized for saying that he should have been first as a reaction to the Australian rape victim at Davao City in 1989. Meanwhile, Trump was accused of groping several women including a leak recording that was taped in 2005.
Both don’t have good relationship with the media. In June, Duterte famously made a remark that corrupt journalists were only killed. Trump on the other hand accused the media for lying.
Trump and Duterte were criticized for acknowledging Vladimir Putin as their idol. The Russian President is famously known for having disagreements with the US.
Trump was slammed when he had a statement that the world will be better if a dictator like Saddam Hussein was still alive. Meanwhile, Duterte praised the tyrannical Middle Eastern Leaders and criticized the US for pulling the Muslim nations apart.
