On April 17 (Sunday), a new set of Binibining Pilipinas queens was crowned at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Maria Mika Maxine Medina (Binibini #29) bagged the Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2016 title along with forthrunners Binibining Pilipinas International 2016 Kylie Versoza (Binibini #31), Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2016 Jennifer Hammond (Binibini #26), Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2016 Joanna Deapara (Binibini #13), Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2016 Nicole Cordoves (Binibini #11), and Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2015 Nichole Marie Manalo (Binibini #28), with their first runner-up Angelica Alita, (Binibini #38) and second-runner up Jehza Huelar (Binibini #37).
Expectations were so intense that memes about Versoza winning the prestigious crown spread online even before the actual announcement of the winners. Made no mistake, Medina has been no less than astoundingly glamorous especially when she strikes a pose after every round of competition. Moreover, beauty pageant experts see a great potential of having the rare back-to-back win in Miss Universe 2016 with Medina. She possesses both confidence and allure as she awed the judges in the Q&A. Medina also won the Binibining Pilipinas Airline special award.
Maria Mika Maxine Medina was a 25 year-old beauty titlist and a commercial model from Quezon City. Prior to the limelight, Medina is a condominium interior designer who graduated from Philippine School of Interior Design. Unlike her predecessor Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach, Medina won the crown on her first attempt. Though, she was initially invited to join the official Binibining Pilipinas 2012 roster but has to turn it down due to a conflict with an endorsement contract during that time.
The newest Binibining Pilipinas Universe title holder promised to train more so she could win the 4th Miss Universe crown for the country.
