February 16, 2016 (Tuesday) –World boxing champion and Senatorial candidate Manny Pacquaio apologized on Instagram for his comment about gay people being "worse than animals". He said that his stand against Same-Sex Marriage doesn’t waver but he admitted that he was wrong to compare a human to an animal. He also posted on Instagram that he was not condemning the LGBT community.
Instantly, the Saranggani Representative was criticized by the outraged LGBT community who were offended by his comment. Celebrities like Aiza Seguerra, Vice Ganda and Boy Abunda also expressed their sentiments against Pacquiao’s statement.
Vice Ganda also ranted on Twitter and said that LGBT are humans and not animals. Although, he accepted Pacquiao’s apologies, Vice Ganda flagrantly posted that he still won’t be voting for Pacquiao.
TV Host and Talent Manager Boy Abunda took to his late night show, ‘Tonight with Boy Abunda”, to vent out his chagrin and fury. Abunda asked Pacquiao where did he get the right to call them (LGBT) worse than animals. Abunda asked Pacquiao, “Tatakbo ka para senador? Ito ang aking katanungan: Palagay mo ba iboboto ko ang tingin sa akin ay mas masahol pa sa hayop? (You are running for the Senate? Do you think, I will vote for someone who thinks I am worse than animal?) He answered and quoted the Congressman with, “common sense”.
I'm sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals. Please forgive me for those I've hurt. I still stand on my belief that I'm against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I'm not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I'm praying for you.
Even Hollywood Blogger, Perez Hilton got offended by Pacquiao’s comment about homosexuality and called the boxer barbaric.
