“You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” This was the line actress Cherie Gil uttered in the movie Bituing Walang Ningning. Since then, the line became famous and made known to the Filipinos. It was 1985 when Cherie Gil used the line when she played Lavinia Arguelles in the movie. After more or less 15 years, Cris Villonco, an ABS-CBN actress will also play Lavinia and will say the same line.

Actress Cherie Gil Does not Approve of use of Famous Line She Uttered
Because of this, she is requesting the Viva Films and Resorts World Manila to cease using the said line in the movie’s musical version that opened last week. Lorna Kapunan, Cherie’s lawyer gave a cease and desist order claiming that the actress owns the intellectual property of the famous line despite director Emmanuel Borlaza’s claim that the line came from him. He said that the late screenwriter Orlando Nadres was the one who wrote the screenplay.

Villonco said that she is saying the line as long as there is no court order. "Ang sinabi po sa akin as long as there's no court order – and alam ko po it was a cease and desist notice – ay sasabihin ko pa din po on Thursday night at until Sunday this weekend. Tapos tingnan po natin ano ang mangyayari next weekend,” the actress said.

The reason for Cherie Gil’s not allowing others to make use of the line is that she is not pleased anymore that someone else will use the said iconic line.
