The Voice is back and has a legacy to overcome. Opened by none other than the four award winning coaches Apl De Ap, Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo and Bamboo, The Voice Philippines Season 2 opened with over flowing excitement and energy.
Each coach is still given a slot of 14 for their team members. In the battle round, a coach can steal a singer that another coach had rejected.
First off is Timothy Povida who came home from Seattle to take care of his grandmother. Lea turned around as he sung I’ll be There. Sarah and Bamboo also wanted him. Each promised to give him a future. Timmy said that he did not expect the outcome and he had chosen Lea as he felt that his mother would agree to him.
Mandaluyong’s Sandra Diaz had been dubbed by the show as a ‘Rakista’. Her parents described her as a colorful person full of energy. Her brother who passed away will always be her inspiration. At the start of her song ‘What about Love’, Sarah already turned around followed by the other coaches who could not stop cheering for her as she reached the high notes and finally gave her a standing ovation. Bamboo said that they all felt that she has something special in her. She picked Bamboo, deciding that the rock star in her goes out to him.
PO3 Jannet Cadayona is a single mom of two kids. Singing ‘Tukso’, Apl decided to turn and he seemed satisfied as he saw the policewoman. He even joked that she was indeed a policewoman as she caught his heart.
Kokoi Baldo from Negros Occidental is proud of be a father and loves to be with his children. He opted to sing barefooted as he said that he lacks guts but all he has to give is his talent as he sings ‘One Day’ reggae style. The four coaches could not stop swaying with his song after they all turned their chairs and beheld him. He ended the song with tears in his eyes and told the coaches how he feared riding the plane once again. Wanting to learn more and sharpen his skills as a musician, Kokoi picked Sarah which Lea voiced out that she did not see coming.
The first episode ended with each coach having one slot given to a fortunate singer. People expects that more talents will be discovered and more battles between coaches will fire up as they get the ‘yes’ of the singers they pick.
