In GMA networks’s program Basta Every Day, actress Glenda Garcia Shared her journey towards beating cancer. It was last year when she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer, and now she is a cancer survivor.
A breast cancer awareness advocate, Garcia was diagnosed on October 8, 2013 according to Philippine Entertainment Portal published on December 7 last year. Even though she was only in Stage 1, the veteran actress opted to have a surgery on October 18 and started chemotherapy since November 15.
She had shared to Alessandra de Rossi and Gladys Reyes that her family were always there to take care of her and her mother was even willing to wait for her during her chemo. During her chemotherapy sessions, Garcia had shared her photos in her Instagram account showing her baldness. She thought at first that she was ready to face hair loss since she had been a cancer advocate and had done lectures about it but she admitted that she still cried as her hair fell off.
While battling her illness, she was still able to act on the GMA primetime series Akin Parin ang Bukas last year. She humorously shared her experience of seeing her hair stuck on her wig in the set. She decided to shave her hair and wear a wig.
She had said to GMA news last year that it is okay for her to lose her hair as she focuses on getting better for her family, especially for her kid.
Lovi Poe, Garcia’s co-star in Akin Parin ang Bukas, voiced out how the actress had inspired her because despite of her illness, she was still able to smile the brightest. Gladys Reyes shared her amazement on Garcia’s strength to fight cancer and her ability to accept her illness. A year after her diagnosis, Garcia is now cancer free and had won the fight.
