Palawan was awarded as the Best Island in the World according to the results of the 27th annual Readers' Choice Awards of the award winning US travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, on October 20, 2014. The island had garnered over 76,600 votes, making it bag the title, "Top Island in the World".
The island had scored a rating of 88.750 percent because of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. According to the travel magazine, the natural wonder of Palawan is the traveling five miles of underground river through a subterranean cave system. It is known to be one of the longest in the world.
Palawan had reigned over other tourist destinations such as Maui in Hawaii, Kiawah Island in South Carolina, the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands in Australia, Santorini in Greece, and the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique.
Boracay did not go unnoticed as it had ranked as the 12th in the list. While Palawan had the rating of 88.750, Boracay did not go far with the rating of 82.683. Known as one of the touring spot in the region, Conde Nast Traveler shared that the island has attracted the tourists with its night life, gentle coastlines and transporting sunsets. The magazine described the island’s main features as its white powdery sand, and the azure water that is ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
The travel magazine even commended the ambiance and the interior of the place. Describing the interior of the public areas, filled with the local art.
