Smart Communications, Inc. revealed their plan to add a total of 1,400 new Long-Term Evolution (LTE) sites all over the country before 2015. In the Makati press briefing,Smart shared their goal for a total of 3,400 sites before the end of 2014.
As LTE becomes more appealing to consumers and the demand goes higher, Samrt Technology Group Head, Ronaldo Pena said that the company tries to make the facility accessible to as many people in the country as possible.
Majority of the 400 mobile LTE sites roll out were deployed in Metro Manila. Smart also plans to install TD (Time Division)- LTE to be able to provide support for the fixed wireless service to local homes in in Metro Manila, Rizal, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Cebu.
Also, Smart is prepared for the commercial roll out of LTE-A, even though it would mainly depend on the demand of the market, as added by Pena. The service is already available and will only take a few updates. While they are planning to open up more areas in the next years to come, the LTE-A’s potential would primarily depend on the capability of the device.
As of now, Smart has two sites of LTE-A that are active, one in Cebu, while the other is in Mandaluyong. To respond to the various needs and demands of the market, Smart offers different services namely, HCSPA+, TD-LTE, and mobile LTE deployments. The strategy is having a combination of network platforms catering to different needs and requirements of the consumers.
Out of Php32 billion of capital expenditures the PLDT had allotted for the year, Smart would have a cut of Php17 billion for the budget of LTE roll out as sadi by Smart public affairs head, Mon Isberto.
