Dulaang UP honors Apolinario Mabini on his 150th birth anniversary with new Quitos play entitled Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini. The troika, part of a widely acclaimed musical Ang Nawalang Kapatid, is part of the collaboration Dexter M. Santos , Krina Cayabyab and Floy Quintos.
Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini is the reenactment of Mabini’s final days in Guam and elaborates the conditions that drove him to return to his motherland.
This one act musical is also dubbed as one of the most important contribution for the sesquicentennial celebration of our hero whose contribution for our freedom was not limited by his paralysis. The musical play shows the personal side of Mabini and the emotions he had faced when he was forced to be allied with United States of America. The play opens the private life of Mabini which strengthens and evoke the pride in his ‘True Decalogue, while also reviving the patriotic side of the audience.
With the book and lyrics of Floy Quintos, original music of Krina Cayabyab and the direction and choroegraphy of Dexter Santos, the musical is set to move the audience back in time to personally meet Mabini and what could his heart be really going through.
According to Quintos, the play aims to awaken the viewers’ interest in Mabini’s masterpiece which is designed to be the basis of personhood of the revolution and which is also what the generation of young Filipinos lack today.
