Star Cinema was founded in 1993 and until now it is still operating under the management of Ma. Lourdes Santos who is also the managing director. There are divisions of Star Cinema and they do their particular tasks and contributions in the company such as Star Television, Star Home Videos, Sine Screen and Skylight Films.
In the history of Star Cinema, there were so many films that were produced like Maalaala Mo Kaya, Madrasta, Magic Temple, Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa, Bagong Buwan, Dekada ’70, On the Job, and many more. These movies are products of Star Cinema that has proven how good it is in terms of producing films despite the fact that it is still young as compared to others.
The two networks of Star Cinema namely Sine Screen and Skylight Films are intended to create indie films that eventually became popular nowadays in the Philippine television. Star Cinema never runs out of ideas not just to compete in the market of films but to provide for the needs of this generation in terms of movies.
Most actors and actresses in Star Cinema came from its parent network ABS-CBN although there are times when it also gives opportunity to others outside of the network. It all depends upon the necessity of the film that is being produced. Star Cinema has several entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival that will take place this year sometime in December.
